My A4 was in for 30K service yesterday. Since I do a lot of stuff on my own, I gave them the list of do and do not: Dont change the brake fluid - I use Motul 600, use the Mobil1 0w40, etc.
I forgot to remind them that I dont want the free wash job. The car was spotless when I dropped it off. When I picked up the car it had been washed and poorly wiped down so it was covered with water spots and dried streaks from a towel used too many times. They also used a fire hose or something to apply that boy racer tire shine crap all over the wheels and tires - and all over the body if you count the 100,000 little silicone oil spray droplets that had semi-dried everywhere on top of the dry streaks. Someone must have drug the silicone oil fire hose over the left rear fender, or the drying guy is short and wears a Harley Davidson belt buckle because the left rear fender was scratched up the way it would be if something dirty or hard were drug up the side and over the trunk. It probably took me more time last night to get things right from the "free" wash than it took them to service the car.
Oh, the tire dressing actually made my car drive like it was on greasy roads untill the excess was flung off the tires and worn off the tread on the way home. I have heard people say this but I dont use this shit myself so I never had the experience before. Amazing.
I am sure this service delivers an improved appearance car to most Audi consumers who consider a commercial car wash a good thing. And I am sure a number of adolescent boys love shiny tires. I am not going to complain to Clair because it is my fault for not telling them to leave it alone.
I just wanted to warn you enthuiasts who use Clair in case you are as anal as I.
