This is the e-mail I received today: --------------------------
Dear Boston Audi.Org: My name is Joe Fritz, a fellow Audi owner and enthusiast. I am in the process of determining if there is enough interest in the Boston area in specific, and the whole state of MA for forming a chapter of the Audi Car Club of North America, formerly The Quattro Club. As you may, or may not know, the ACC is the car club that is recognized and supported by AoA and Audi AG. Currently, there is a Northeast Quattro Club chapter, which I am sure you are aware of. This chapter, when started, contained the original 13 states. But, because the club has grown at leaps and bounds along with the number of Audi owners, the chapter has been sliced-up into more local chapters, mostly by states so far. The director of the ACC has been after me for awhile to help form a Boston chapter, which I said I would see if there is enough interest in forming one. Since you already have formed a local group I thought that I would start with your group to see if there is enough interest or not. Personally, I do not want to run this chapter but would be more than willing to help as time would allow. If you and your group are interested, then we should meet to talk about what is involved. My cell phone number is, XXX-XXX-XXXX. Hope to speak with you soon. Regards, Joe Fritz --------------------------
What do you guys think? I see the options as:
Stay BAG - say no to ACC
Stay BAG AND form Boston ACC by using existing Quattro Club/ACC BAG members to form a Boston chapter
Merge BAG into ACC - downside is we now all have $40/year dues
Other options? Who'd be interested? If we join ACC, we have a chance of doubling or tripling in size within the first year. We may also get funding for doing our own Auto-X or track events. This is a very good offer if we can pull it off - it'll also be a big change from the rag-tag gang that BAG is.
So what do you guys think?

I am not to sure about that. We need to sit down and discuss the pro and cons. I personaly think my idea is better which we discussed a little bit. (not at liberty to discuss it openly yet)
But like I said, I think we should discuss it, I really don't like the idea of dues, and the quattro club has always been more of the older crowed, dedicated to driving classes and such.. Which any member of BostonAudi can join now.. I am a member, but I have never gone to any of the events..

i kinda agree with kirath, though i have no idea what his super-secret plan is... pros i immediately see: card-carrying connection to other ACC chapters funding for events and greater availability for said events potentially more leverage with AoA better group buys/deals ;D cons: loss of community (to a much LARGER community) dues possible limitations to types of events due to the "older crowd" that kirath referred to (i.e. more classes, fewer GTGs) no more BBQs at rey's house

A couple off the top of my head thoughts:
1) I've seen how much work goes into running the Northeast Quattro Club... do we have people who are willing to put in that kind of enormous amounts of time. It goes quite a bit further than meeting up at the fud, these are full time committments in a lot of cases.
2) What will those people at NEQC think of this change? If their southern NH type people aren't on board with it, we would have a huge gaping hole in our internal experience running typical QC events. (Track events, in particular)
3) Loss of all the resources that the NEQC has built up over the years -- not just the people, but the trailer, the helmets, etc, etc, etc. Its a huge amount of stuff.
4) Fracturing the existing NEQ community?
5) Board of directors would be needed. Do we have people willing to do that? It brings upon it legal responsibilities and certain liabilities.
I'm not convinced there is that much demand in the area for a Boston-specific quattro club. I've talked to a lot of people at NEQ events, and Boston isn't that highly represented at them. Sure, it would help reduce congestion getting into track events if NEQ and a boston club were arranging them, but it could reduce it to the point where less crowded events don't fill up for either club.

The question I ask is: Is there something that we (the BAG) feel we are missing out on? My answer is NO. BAG has grown leaps and bounds and continues to. Look at the Framingham GTG and the Dyno Day. There were 50+ cars at both events. I will answer this question for myself, but I think it is important for everyone to consider what you look to the BAG for. I look to BAG for many things, but these are the ones I feel are most important...... Community-From day one I have been accepted (thanks for overlooking my faults . I posted on AW back in December stating that I was planning on buying an Audi. One of the first responses I got was from Mike saying to stop be BAG. I did, and was given a lot of guidance on my search and my first mods. Thanks Madman for my first (snow and ice) ride in a chipped S4. There are no agendas here and that is way I like it. Un-biased Advice- I have gotten a lot of useful advice from you guys and I have learned to trust you guys as opposed to some of the Rogue marketers you get on AW. Infact I had a post deleted today about BAg T-shirts. Not to mention, I'm not sure we would want to align oursleves with AOA or any other group representing the auto maker itself. I like the smallish group "where everybody knows your name." I am confident that BAG "as is," is good and will continue to get better everyday. That is my 2¢

I am with nuhuskyfan 100% on this one. I may be biased because track events seem to be the major draw of the Quattro Club and personally, I'm not into tracking my Audi (that's what the Boxster is for . I like the current setup, with small groups and car/social gatherings. Definately a tough decision for Mike though, what with all of the glamour of national affiliation Also just my $0.02.

This is a refreshingly independent group on BAG. AoA involvement will pretty quickly put an end to any discussion not officially sanctioned by AoA (either directly or through intimidation). I am already a QC member and that is exactly how QC feels to me.
As far as events, well I dont see the availability of openings at the popular QC events getting any better and we already have an outstanding group running autocrossses - the Boston chapter of BMWCCA that we are invited to attend. A few of the NEQC guys already do the NE aftermarket event, so what changes there? GTG? Well it seems a little web planning goes a long way there.
I dont see an upside. Only drawbacks.
