Alright - I just got pulled over for not having a front tag on the Boxster. No ticket and no big deal. The officer did say that if he sees me again (it was a cop in my hometown so it's probable) without the front tag. I will be getting a ticket. He informed me that the ticket will carry a 7 YEAR SURCHARGE on my insurance. This seems rather excessive. Anyone know the facts.
I'll call my insurance agent later today and find out. If true it looks like I'm going to x-fer a registration from another car that has the old green plate hence no front tag.
Sucks.....

Sorry Rey that sucks. I am getting an inspection next week and the plate is comming off right afterwards. In Philly no need for a front plate, plus I will be an out of stater!!
Transfer the registration, the honk next time you go by that cop!!

Well the cop was almost correct. It's 6 years not 7 for the surcharge. Just like any other moving violation. Really sucks. I wish this had happened anywhere else other than my hometown. Damn. Looks like we'll be x-ferring regs from the Pony.

In the eyes of the law, they could care less if your car is and antique and/or isn't designed to accept a front place. They expect you to attach it any way possible and angle it properly in such a way that all radar and laser beams can lock on.
What you need is a robot (we have a guy who does robots I hear) that can flip the plate up from a flush position under the car at the press of a button. "Officer, check again, you must have missed it"
What exactly is the surcharge anyway? Is it points or something else?
I asked the RMV about a "Front License Plate Waiver" that I did hear exists somewhere and he pretty much laughed at me.
