Because Boston Audi is the best, here's a freebie. Well, a freebie broken down into layman's terms: Our Bose Stereos stink. We can make them sound much better by removing the Bose Factory Settings or Filters with a VAG-COM. "De-Bosing" as it's called.
Your stereo will sound MUCH CLEANER, more bass, more highs...just better all around. You can ask Rey, GotPSI, DoctorNo, DJ Demetrius and Ben as they are believers and have now had their Bose settings removed.
Anyway, if you don't have a VAG, I will be happy to recode the stereo for you, please e-mail me.
This has nothing to do with the hidden equalizer effect. Bose has Factory Settings for what THEY think our speakers should sound like, held back, no highs, no lows, just sorta in the middle.
Why does Bose do this? So when you turn the volume all the way up, it is still "clear" and not distorted. But what this does is take away the highs and lows and what we get are mids. The saying goes (thanks Rey), "If there are no highs and no lows, it must be Bose." This is a truth.
First off, the SAFEST SETTING is: 00107, you'll see why later...
Here are the instructions and thanks to KentL for finding them:
Here is the breakdown:
54321 where:
5 is country. 0=standard
4 is sound matching (?) 0 is the only value listed
3 is number of passive loudspeakers. 0=No passive loudspeakers (BOSE), 1=1
passive loudspeaker (BOSE with phone), 2=2 passive (front) and 2 active
(rear), 5=2 passive (front) and no active (rear)
2 is type of adjustment 0=Standard (No BOSE), 1=BOSE
1 is radio configuration based on options 1=Antenna, 3=Antenna and CD
Changer, 5=Antenna and secondary display ( NAV), 7=Antenna, CD Changer and
secondary display
Assuming you have the Bose Stereo and antenna (by default because you have to have these at a minimum):
00001: Stereo head unit only
00003: Stereo head unit and CD Changer
00005: Stereo head unit and NAV
00007: Stereo head unit, CD Changer and NAV
00107: Stereo head unit, CD Changer, NAV and phone
So, for example: My S4 came with the Bose Stereo only so I would use: 00001 to clear the Bose Settings.
Then I installed the CD Changer so I had to change the code to: 00003.
If you have the Bose Stereo and NAV then it's: 00005
If you have the Bose Stereo, CD Changer and NAV, it's: 00007.
Finally, if you have every single option, phone, Bose, CD Changer and NAV, it's: 00107 or any variation above.
Hope this helps. ;D
