1st Annual Dead River Whitewater GTG Extravaganza!
Ok! So what's the deal you ask? When? How much? What do I get for my money?
Background:[/i]
I've whitewater rafted all three rivers allowed in Maine. They are: Kennebeck, Pennobscott, and The Dead! All three rivers have rapids up to class 5. Time spent on the river ranges from 3-5 hours. I've done the Kennebeck twice (least fun of all), Pennobscott five times (long and winding, but loads of fun), and The Dead three times (short in time, but non-stop rapids for the most part). The ride from Boston is about 3-4 hours, depending on cruising speed!
The Dead River:[/i]
Time spent on river is about 3 hours. The river is non-stop fun, and it has mostly class 3 and 4 rapids. About 2 or 3 class 5 rapids if I remember correctly. The Dead River is privately owned, so it only opens 6-8 times in the Spring for whitewater rafting, and again 6-8 times in the Fall. The other two rivers stay opened all Summer long.
Usually this river can be found at flood stages during the Spring time runs. It makes it for a whole lot more fun, since even class 3 rapids can send you overboards if you are sleeping with the paddle in your hands.
Who is allowed:[/i]
Everyone who wishes to come is fine with the trip moderator.
When's the trip:[/i]
The trip is on June 7-9, 2002.
Trip costs and details:[/i]
The trip costs $165 per person. This fee includes two nights lodging, rafting on Saturday June 8th, a huge mid-afternoon lunch the day of rafting, and full use of the facilities.
Lodging is at the Sterling Guest Houses, which are located on the shores of Wyman Lake. Each Guest House sleeps about 10 people, have living room and full kitchen. These Guest Houses make for great party headquarters. Guest Houses are located on the grounds of Osprey Rafting Center, which means that the day of rafting, all you have to do is roll out of bed if you wish, get your rafting gear and hop on the bus!
If you don't wish to share a Guest House, then there is the Sterling Inn across the street.
What other activities:[/i]
The Rafting Center is a full lake side resort. There are rental touring kayaks, cannoeing, swimming, outdoor Jaccuzzi, and sand voleyball courts.
How do I join the team:[/i]
Deadline for registration is March 11th, 2002. Sign up early to make sure we have enough space.
The total amount is due with your registration information, for each of the parties you are bringing. You can bring loved ones, or a friend if you wish.
For full information, please e-mail or call Matt Casparius at:

I can vouch for this team, since I've been doing rafting trips with them for the past 4 years. Great team, and guaranteed loads of fun.
I am definitely going, and I was hoping that some of you would join me in it. Great Audi Caravan going together, would be loads of fun!
